Projector for Cookie Decoration Buying Guide

Buying the best projector for cookie decoration requires you to look at a projector in a different way to if you were looking for a projector to stream movies or play games.

Here we provide you with some advice on what to look for.

a) Resolution

A very high resolution is not of great importance as you will be projecting onto the cookie from close proximity.

Ideally, we would go for something with a 480p resolution to ensure that you get decent clarity and do not have to work with a distorted image.

b) Contrast Ratio

Contrast ratio relates to the difference between white and black in the pictures. With cookie decorating you are unlikely to be working with complex shading, so a low contrast ratio for the colors being used will suit the job perfectly.

c) Brightness

The brightness of a projector is usually an issue when you need to project a longer distance in a bright room.

But with cookie decorating you are working close up and therefore don’t need to worry too much about a low lumen interfering with the image your projector produces.

If possible, we would still try to go with a projector that offer 1000 lumens just in case you do want to use it for other things as well.

d) Dimensions & Weight

With any projector for cookie decorating, you need It to be smalls and easy to handle.

A big bulky projector is not going to allow you the manoeuvrability you need to get your decoration image onto the cookie.

A lot of the smaller projectors are no bigger than a smartphone which makes them incredibly useful for this endeavour.

However, you may also look for the option of a projector that looks down towards a table from a mounted stand. This has the obvious advantage of not needing to be held.

e) Lamp Life

Lamp life is an important feature for any projector because it gives you a rough idea of how long it will be before you have to open your wallet or purse again and fork out cash for another device.

If you want to keep your money in your bank account, the longer the lamp life the better.

How do you decorate cookies with a projector?

Before decorating, you need to set up your projector with the device you are going to be using. It may be using a wired connection or a wireless connection – whatever your need may be.

Once the device and projector are connected, you will need to set the projector on a tripod so that the lens is facing towards the cookie. Again, the exact setup will depend on the type of tripod you are using, so follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Once the tripod is set up, load the image you want to use onto your device. Once this is loaded, duplicate the screen so that the image appears both on the device and through the projector.

Place the cookies under the projector so that the image projected falls onto the cookie. Resize the image as needed. With the image now projected onto the cookie in the size you want, you can start your cookie decoration.

What is a pico projector for cookies?

A pico projector is a small projector that can be held by hand and used to project images from a phone or laptop.

Pico projectors are especially useful for cookie decoration because they are battery-operated and therefore don’t require a huge number of wires. Additionally, due to their size, they can be easily mounted on a tripod or, better still, an Arkon mount to project an image down onto a cookie for decoration.

How do I project an image onto a cookie?

You will need a projector, a device to project from, and a tripod or Arkon mount.

Ideally, it would be best if you used a pico projector as they are small and lightweight, making them easy to set in place and ensuring that they don’t produce so much heat that you melt your icing/cooking decorations.

Place the projector onto the tripod or mount, and ensure that it is hooked up with the device you are using.

Duplicate the screen of your device so that the image comes out of the projector. You will then be able to put the cookie under the image to decorate the cookie according to the image being projected onto it.

How do you decorate cookies with a pico projector?

Hook up your device to the pico projector and duplicate the image from your device.

Ensure that the pico projector is secured with a tripod or mount so that the image can be projected down upon the cookie.

Rotate and resize the image either using your device or the projector so that the image is projected perfectly onto your cookies.

You are then ready to decorate the cookies.

What to use to write on cookies?

With your projector hooked up and ready to project onto the cookies, use either MS Word or a writing app to create the text you will use on the cookies.

Once the text has been created, duplicate the image and resize it to project perfectly onto the cookies.

With the writing projected onto the cookies, you are then ready to trace the writing using icing or some other decoration.

    1. Not very well. I got this and returned it after one use as the focus is VERY limited. If you turn the part where the light comes out of to create the image it will adjust the focus a tiny amount. It worked best in the dark and I used books to adjust how close my cookies were to the light to get better focus
